What a good day this was. After the hell of the last few (air conditioning leaking through the attic ceiling and down onto my farmhouse table in our dining room via a chandelier; flooding in our guesthouse & garage and the subsequent discovery of termites while the restoration crew was out there tearing out large chunks of drywall to clean up the mess; you get the picture…) today was downright pleasant. Well, at least beginning at the point right after my husband said to me as we were about to leave the house, “what’s with the granny panties?” Nice. All I heard was “you have a big – no, I mean a really BIG – biscuit.” Ugh. But he made up for that one nicely by treating me to a Juicy Tube from our local Neiman Marcus. Nice guy, he does redeem quite well.
This morning, Pea made a basket in her little basketball net set up in the den. A real basket. I mean, she’s made them before, but always standing underneath the basket and just kind of rolling it in. This was a real basket – underhanded, yes, but she grabbed the ball from her dad and just threw it in the basket. Awesome. So awesome, that her daddy got a little teary-eyed. I love those moments.
We went on to do some more errands, like buy a booster seat for Pea because she’s sooo over her Svan highchair these days. And then we bought her some cute sequined espadrilles to wear with her dress that GiGi sent her to wear to her birthday party next month. And then, we scored. We found her a pair (the last pair! in her size!) of real pink ballet shoes from a place of which I have never before entered… Payless! Oh my gosh, they are the shoes she was bugging me about when we saw them at another store, but there they only had her size in black and they just didn’t look right. But these, they are perfect for my budding ballerina, and at the rate her monster feet are growing (size 8! not even two yet!), I was pretty jazzed to find them for only $15. (Actually, the recommendation to head on over to our local Payless came from a dad we bumped into at an open house for a preschool program we’re looking at for Pea. A dad. Knew where to find ballet shoes for a little girl. Man, that just melts my heart.)
And these little girls:
