A change is due. Long overdue. I’m thinking red. But not Debra Messing red. More of a Kate Walsh red. Which I guess would make it more of an auburn, right? Better off auburn?
I found this neat site, called makeoversolutions.com, and although it costs money, it amounts to just about $5 a month and I signed on for three months. It’s a makeover site, kind of fun to poke around on. You can give yourself a celebrity hair do (can I just say, who wouldn’t look good with Jennifer Aniston’s hair? She has the most perfect coif.) or color or try on generic styles (bangs, anyone?) and you can even try on make-up. I uploaded a terribly unflattering picture of myself, no make-up, hair barely visible in a tight bun and gave it a go. Made myself a blond with a Jessica Simpson ‘do (isn’t it amazing how a pretty blond shade on one woman can look like dried out neon yellow straw on another? Because that’s how I look with her blond hair.). Tried out some more brunettes, such as Penelope Cruz (too dark) and Courteney Cox (way too dark). I’m just basically feeling like anything would be a welcome improvement over my own exceedingly mousy brown.
And then, I came across a photo of that redhead from “Buffy.” Remember her? But in this picture, her hair was this gorgeous shade of shiny auburn, and when I put it on my mug-shot, I have to admit that a “wow” crept out of my mouth. A color I’d never really considered before? Red? Looked like me. Only better. And isn’t that the goal? It is for me. And I think I read somewhere that upkeep on red is much more tedious than upkeep on blond, but honestly? I’m thinking it might be worth it. This picture of me, with this gorgeous reddish mane made me look more alive – even without makeup on – than I’ve looked in years! So I’m thinking about it. Mulling it over. Should I do it? There’s always that awkward phase where people you know see you for the first time and say “oh my God, you’re hair…” I hate that. Pointing out that yes, I’ve made a drastic change. But once I get over that bump, I think I might really enjoy standing out a little bit.

First: Yes, post pix, even if you aren’t immediately happy with them or the colour. It’ll grow on you. I think the red will work, all my best girls have some red.
Second: Antihistamines work just fine in those under 2 years old. They reduce the effect and production of histamines. However, overdoses are easy to produce, and often histamines aren’t the problem, so antihistamines given in large doses (for the weight of the person and taking into consideration that their kidneys and liver still aren’t fully developed and so the drug may have a longer half-life in young children) really aren’t the best choice.
It’s like giving large doses of antibiotics for a viral infection and then saying the antibiotics don’t work. They work just fine, they just aren’t indicated for the problem.
Go red but don’t make it look fake. That is so annoying.
I have used antihistmines on my children when they needed them. The truth is, I have nine children and they seldom need to see a doctor. They hardly get sick and when they do, I give them something to relive the pain but let the illness run it’s course.
At the risk of being flamed or hurting anyone’s feelings re: Ana’s comments–
I have 4 children (ages 14 to 11 months)…I’ve not killed a one nor put any in the hospital using antihistamines. While it’s true you sure shouldn’t drug the little bitties willy-nilly and you absolutely shouldn’t do so under the age of 2 without consulting your pedi (which is why those drugs were pulled–the warning was changed from under 2 consult doctor to do not use under 2 to prevent any potential misuse by parents or caregivers) those drugs aren’t in and of themselves harmful to children under 2. So please, lighten up.
(One moment–putting away soap box)
Okay onto funner stuff: GO RED GO RED GO RED
You will so feel better. You’ve sounded so blue and while I have never, ever commented before and have no right to tell you what to do, red does have the most profound effect. You feel soooooooooo…..soooooooooooo….
mmmmmm…soooo…!
I vote go for it!!!!! Have fun! And if you’d like to chat with a total stranger, please feel free to email me. I might make you laugh!
Antihistamines are ineffective and quite possibly dangerous in children under 2 (see news coverage of recalled infant medicines). Less time blogging, babe, more time reading!
Red is the most fabulous!
I’ve been a shade of red since the day I was born (with orange hair), even when I dyed my locks blonde this past summer I had half pink and the blonde was a candied pecan (so reddish).
I don’t really understand the red being more upkeep comment. Just don’t try to dye red over a bleach job *sighs*….
I hope you post the results if you do it! (Pics I mean, we want pics!)
*hugs*
