my favorite things

I have found it! The foundation that is going to give me back at least a small semblance of healthy young skin! If you recall, last month I had a nasty run-in with the rearview mirror of my car and realized that alas! I do not have the right skin to be getting away with a tinted moisturizer any longer. I am a grown woman now, with grown woman skin and so it was time to make the commitment to a product with a little more… coverage. Which is not a word I’m all that fond of. For someone who has as much make-up as I do, I don’t actually like to wear make-up. Simply put, I don’t like the way it feels on my face, particularly foundation (isn’t that just a hideous word?). I also have oily skin, prone to break-outs, so anything I put on my face is going to have a pretty tall order to fill.

Teint Innocence by Chanel. Brilliant. No break-outs. Medium coverage but in a lovely sheer consistency. I actually read somewhere that when Chanel was working on the formula, they dubbed it “baby skin.” They were not kidding. It has the most wonderfully light consistency; shouldn’t even be allowed to call itself foundation. It covers what I need it to, but I can put it on without a mirror (key, in this house – always on the go) and know that I’m not going to have that dreadful mask around my jaw.

I’ve tried several other products along the way that used code words like “radiant” and “dewy.” That really just means that it was formulated with a little shimmer – as if that’s going to fool someone into thinking I have that youthful glow. Come on, it just looks like shimmer! Or as my husband would say, “you look like you fell face first into the craft table.”

It’s a little pricey at $45, but honestly, when it comes to what I put on my face, whether make-up or a beauty product, I’m pretty discriminating. Although I do love to hit up the make-up aisle at my local drugstore, my general rule of thumb has been that foundation should be department store caliber. You can try three different drugstore brands, and none of them will be a color match but now you’re stuck with them, or you can go to the department store and pick up one bottle, suitable for your skin color, and it’s all going to be a financial wash in the end. That’s my logic, and I’m sticking to it.

Anyway, this stuff is incredible. If you are looking for a wonderful foundation that you can put on in a pinch and still look like yourself but better, than this is it.
