more delicious beauty products for the changing seasons…

Lots of beauty products to write about lately. But this time of the year always brings about changing (and challenging) skin care needs, and thus I end up trying a lot of new products in my never-ending search for the perfect one for my… chapped lips, dry cuticles, itchy legs… you get the picture.

I spent a little time last night going through the drawers and cabinets in my bathroom and making a pile of products that either haven’t worked for me, disagreed with me or that have those dreadful ingredients on my “don’t use products with these ingredients” list. It ended up being a rather large pile and although I’m not going to be using them any longer, I’m not just throwing them away. I’ll be sending them to my younger sister, a fiscally challenged graduate student in Cincinnati, who never says no to anything.

Among the products I was going through, I found a trusty old friend who I’d completely forgotten about. Weleda Skin Food. It’s in the green aluminum tube, and I do think this one is also a contender for a wonderful all-around family salve to have on hand to treat any and everything. Last night, I used it on my cuticles and my lips and it smells delicious – very fruity and healthy.

The best part if that while I used to have to go to Whole Foods or order it online, I can now buy it at Walgreen’s. I’m not kidding you. If you haven’t recently been to a Walgreen’s, get yourself there quickly. They, too, have jumped on the bandwagon of healthy and natural living. You will be amazed at what you see! Really, if Walgreen’s can start carrying wonderful all-natural and organic beauty care items, I have no excuse any longer not to make the switch. They had a comprehensive display of Weleda products and Burt’s Bees and several other lines including one called La Fleur which makes a moisturizing mist that I just love. Although it’s meant to be sprayed on your face, which I do, I also spray it above my pillow at night and settle in for sweet dreams.

Hi there, I was checking my mail and saw a link for your post. It said “chic mommy” “a stylish mommy writes about life….” Ok I got excited I thought maybe there would be some real advise. However after reading it I discovered that your blog was like the rest. Who can relate to this stuff! When so many mothers are working and/or single and struggling to get by, they don’t want to hear about Target or your nanny and guesthouse. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to take anything from you. You have been blessed with a good life it seems and seem to be in a great financial situation. But if you are going to claim to help moms, then do it! Talk about something real, something of importance. Something that can really help a mom get through her day and help with her kids. But I guess when you are a stay at home mom, with a nanny you don’t have much else to do but talk about your shopping sprees online. Now this response is only based off of what I read in your post today, if I am mistaken about you, I apologize in advance.

    Thanks.

Melissa, I remember one of your posts a few weeks ago where you mentioned the change of seasons wrecking havoc on your dry skin. In the same post you detailed how it’s only in the cooler/cold weather that you’re in need of lotion, well for most folks of color, we need lotion all day, every day and I found this great stuff at Whole Foods. It’s ShiKai’s Borage Dry Skin Therapy. I got it for the kids when the chlorine from daily visits to the pool started to cause patches of rashes on Olivia’s skin. it is a bit pricey and I’m not sure if its ingredients i are on your ban list, but it’s done wonders around here.
