I’m really on a “Dora the Explorer” kick right now. Pea is learning Spanish at warp speed watching this show. Today alone, she learned “up” and “down.” And I’m not talking the simple regurgitation of the words, I mean she took the concept of up and down as she understands it in English, and then translated it into Spanish. I watched the whole understanding unfold in her little brain right before my very eyes, and it was pretty cool.
She’s been using a lot of Spanish terms lately that I just know she’s picking up from the show. But her favorite, by far, is still “ayuda me!” I think she might even be using that more than it’s English counterpart, “help me!”
And so it’s turned into a sort of a party trick. In order to show off my daughter’s insane aptitude for foreign language, I sometimes prompt her: “Pea, how do you say ‘help me’ in Spanish?”
And she correctly replies, “ayuda me!”
And so today, once again, I prompted her with the request to “please, say “help me in Spanish.”
And she so politely replied… “help me in Spanish.”
Kids are funny that way, huh? Clever, too.

Oh, she’s on to you!!!
My little guy is totally loving Dora, too!!! And he loves to use ayuda me! He’s been picking out spanish books at the bookstore, too. We read “la oruga muy hambrienta” very often at our house (that’s “the very hungry caterpillar”) and he has spanish word books, too. Just wait!
Aargh, don’t you just hate it when they do that? Mine are always pulling the “I’m not your trick pony” move. Thank heaven for video.
*cheers*
