dress for success

So Pea is really into dressing herself these days. I’ve put up pictures before on Flickr of some of her choice outfits, but here’s a reminder:

And yes, for the record, we did let her out of the house dressed like this. It falls under the category of “choose your battles.” And if you knew Pea at all, you’d know she’s a lot like me, stubborn and bull-headed, and you really, really should pick your battles. Clothing not being one of them. I figure that I’m just letting her creatively express herself as well as she can, being that she’s not even three yet. And yes, I realize she looks a bit like an old grandma here, and my husband refers to this particular outfit as her “Driving Miss Pea” outfit. You know, she’s off to the Piggly Wiggly. But I digress…

In an ideal world, all of her clothes would somehow coordinate with one another and it would be foolproof, sending her into her room to pick out the day’s outfit. But that’s not always the case. Over the summer, I happened on a website after quite a bit of digging around. I had seen a picture of Apple Martin (Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter) in a cute little brown dress. Being that I love earthy colors on my little girl, I located the dress from on on-line shop called Chick Chat. Not much of a name, right? But the clothes are soft cotton, no labels, and the most brilliant part? Every season, there are only a select number of items in the bunch and… they all coordinate! So you can buy up these items (shirts, tanks, skirts, dresses, cropped pants, etc.) in any and every color you like (and these are not cutesy little girl colors, either… no pastels here, these are soft, muted and sophisticated colors) and they all match. Awesome!

I periodically visit the site to see what’s up, what’s going on for the season. And they have their spring and their fall line from 2007 on sale now, and the prices are phenomenal. There’s still a decent selection left and I’m planning on loading up on it for the girls for next year.

Love the outfit! At least all the colors go with one another. You are probably wise to pick your battles, plus who really cares at this point other people have figured out she chose her own outfit. Maybe she be the style editor for a fashion mag. or the next Vera Wang.

She looks AWESOME! I do the same with Kendall. It’s a battle that’s totally unnecessary to fight. She was Diego for Halloween and she STILL wears the shirt…ALL.THE.TIME! And I don’t care!! She loves it!

    So funny!

    Hope you’re doing well!

That is so precious! I let Nick dress himself one day and he picked out blue and yellow shorts, a little boys tank top and his Thomas the Train house shoes. I would have let him out of the house that way, BUT it was below freezing! He usually picks out his shirts which takes about 30 minutes each day..gotta love the fashion minded child :)

    Thanks for the link!

I love Pea’s outfit! And I can’t wait to see Clara wearing some of the clothes I just picked up from Chick Chat!

Hey Mama Melissa! I sure know about picking your battles with the little one’s clothing choices. I remember when Yannick was in pre-school, he wanted to wear his Incredible Hulk costume at least three days a week, and guess what? I let him, because what’s the big deal? He’s definitely our little super hero.
