I used to use this lip balm by Nuxe that I’d order directly from a little pharmacy in Paris. I’d order several jars of it because it was about $6 and it was incredible. And then, high-end American beauty shops started to carry the line, and suddenly, it was over $20 a jar. And that’s crazy. Well, not so crazy, because, admitting that I am a fierce lip balm addict, I would actually pay that. But on principle, I decided not to. I was bothered by something that in one country is reasonably priced but in another country is outrageously priced. Kind of like my beloved Petit Bateau tee-shirts, about $7 a pop at Galeries Lafayette, a French department store in Paris, and about $30 a shirt here in the states. So unfair.
Anyway, recently, I ordered a bottle of this dry oil, also by Nuxe, and I’m in love. It’s a little decadent, but I am now a loyalist. You can use it on anything, and I mean anything. On our end-of-summer vacation up to the mountains, I’d use it on Pea after a day outside in the water. I’ve used it on my own legs when they’ve been itchy and dry. I’ve used it on my cuticles and on my face and these past few days? I’ve used it on my hair, and let me tell you, it is glorious. After I blow-dry my hair, I rub a few squirts through the ends and it makes my hair all shiny and glossy and healthy-looking. And it’s been windy here, so when the wind blows my hair into my face, I get this amazing whiff of almonds. My husband actually made fun of me the other day, and then promptly asked me to “seriously, stop smelling your hair, it’s weird.”
I like products that do double – even triple – duty, and this is one of them. And although it has a spray pump on it, making it easier to use, I recommend using it with caution. It’s housed in a glass bottle which can become mighty slippery when you have the oil on your hands. Don’t find that out the hard way. Like I did. And it comes with a 6-month expiration date, hence the rush for me to find new and clever ways to use the product. Our six months together are coming to an end, and it would be nothing short of a sin not to finish using it before it expired.

Tam,
I am passionate about budgets! We have one in our home, it’s very detailed, down to every last tube of lip balm, restaurant outing and camera lens. It reigns supreme. And while I know it seems like I shop a lot, it’s all in the budget. Personally, I don’t think it matters how much money you have, in order to live peacefully (because let’s face it, any money issue can give you an ulcer!) you MUST HAVE A BUDGET. I’d be so happy to share with you more details, the budget software I like, etc. if you are interested. Feel free to email me! mtm@melissathemouth.com and I will share all of my secrets! I’m telling you, a budget will change your life.
Okay I love all your suggestions. Seriously cutting edge Momma. I have a weird question that I am facing in my own family and I am not sure if you have adressed. Budgeting. Do you and hubby have a said budget on how much you guys spend per month lets say on Lip balm or other than food items. We have seriosly cutting back and I wonder how you handle the urge to splurge.
Any how the oil is going on my list. Thought you might have a good perspective to share.
Yummy. It sounds lovely…. but I just put in an enormous order to Saffron Rouge and that Chick Chat place, so I’m putting my foot down on this one!
At least for now.
Hey Chelsea,
My everyday body lotion is Kiehl’s Creme de Corps, particularly in the winter when my skin gets super-dry. If you don’t avoid products with petroleum (and it’s OK not to!) then the body lotions by Curel are the most incredibly moisturizing lotions and do wonders for kids with eczema, so you can imagine how effective they are. I think that they are hand’s down the BEST lotions out there. For my hands I love Crabtree & Evelyn’s Gardener’s Hand Therapy cream and also Sally Hansen 18-Hour Protective hand creme (really, really rich so I usually just use it at night, before bed, otherwise everything is always slipping out of my hands) and for the day, Sally Hansen Flawless Hands (it has an SPF and I love a product with an SPF!).
Hey Melissa, I am curious to know what you use these days for just normal hand cream or lotion. Is there something you like that is less concentrated than apricot or Nuxe oil?
