wherefore art their… art?

I live for organization. It’s the single most important part of keeping my house clean, free of clutter and enjoyable to reside in. What I love even more is organization that is chic, stylish, and can do double-duty out in the open, rather than be tucked away, deep in the bowels of a closet somewhere, only to be forgotten about.

The Container Store is a place that I avoid at all costs, as much as possible. Therein lies the answers to many of my organizational conundrums. It looks good, it fits in with the overall feel of my home and… I go in for a couple of things and walk out, hundreds of dollars later. Too many choices, they all make sense, so why not?

Since Pea has been in school, the pile up of art projects has been inundating. Don’t get me wrong, I adore each and every picture, painting, drawing and sculpture that she brings home. They are more valuable to me than anything that’s currently hanging on my walls. I cannot part with a single thing. My mother keeps asking me to send her something, and I can’t decide which piece I’d be content to part with. Although I did make a bold move the other day, and gave a piece to my mother-in-law. She promptly cleared the way on her refrigerator and hung it up. A good sign, indeed. She, too, sees the budding artist in my little Pea.

But what to do with the remaining pieces? The sizes are all over the place, some of them created on pieces of construction paper of such an enormous size that I wouldn’t know where to begin. I considered covering storage boxes with fabric in a cool print, but, ha. Let’s face it: I have no patience for a project that calls for that kind of creativity.

And then, as luck would have it, I received an email form Krista, who is a Personal Organizing Speaker & Consultant. She left me a link to her site and on her own personal blog, filled with many, many stylish organizational ideas, I found this. The perfect organizer for my daughter’s art portfolio. I am ordering one pronto.

Thanks, Krista, from one stylishly organized mama to another.

Oh, you’ve got to stop recommending all these great products!
I store my son’s letter-size artwork in one of those brown accordion files and sometimes it doesn’t really fit so I switched to a legal size, but this is fantastic since I let him paint on poster paper and didn’t know what to do with it afterwards…thanks!

I just stumbled on to your blog a few days ago… and I have so enjoyed reading your posts. I too am super-obsessed with organization, and the Container Store is one of my weaknesses also. Thanks for the link to the art holder. I have three kids and the plastic boxes I am storing them in are not really working. This looks perfect!
