Here we are in our beautiful new home, with no furniture, no dishes, no anything. I’ve been wearing my husband’s shirts for the last two days, the same pair of jeans for the last two days. We are living on take-out. Our movers were supposed to deliver on Wednesday or Thursday, but on late Wednesday afternoon, the driver called requesting a Friday delivery because he’s not feeling well. Of course, being kind and compassionate people, we said no problem. But here it is now, late Thursday afternoon, and we still have not heard from him and his mobile is going straight to voice mail.
Uh oh…
I have a serious case of cabin fever. It’s been snowing on and off all day and we’ve been tied down to the house taking care of all of the things that need to be taken care of when you’re in a new home. Contractors and service people coming in and out all day. The house isn’t baby-proofed yet, and so it’s just been me. And the girls. All day. And all night, since Pea and I are sharing an inflatable bed while we await our furniture. I am on overload. Since we left Fort Worth, I have had barely a moment to myself, literally.
And still, I am so grateful for the beauty of this place and the excitement of our new home and all of the wonderful things to come for us. We have chosen a wonderful nursery school for Pea to attend in the fall. We are anticipating – anxiously – potty training her any day now. Coco is standing on her own and since there’s no furniture in the house for her to cruise on, we are certain she’s going to be walking any minute. And finally, a Whole Foods. In my neighborhood! It just can’t get much better than this.
Oh, and for all you clever ladies out there who guessed Utah, well, you were spot on… Nicely done.
I heart Utah. Big time.

Crystal,
My site it Wordpress with a custom template. I had a really incredible designer do the graphics. Thanks for the compliments and feel free to email me if you want names…
Your site is awesome! I maintain a blog but this is a step up from what I currently have. How did you go about setting this up?
I know how hard it is to be without your “stuff” but it will arrive soon and then you will have to figure out where to put it all! And maybe this will prompt Coco to start walking, like you said. How exciting! It’s great you have a Whole Food in your hood. Gotta say, I love that place!
Hang in there girl. Moving is so crazy stressful without kids. But you will get settled in no time. and trust me, nobody wants somebody else’s house full of stuff. Those movers will arrive…. apparently in their own time.
Oh Melissa!
I’m sorry! Hang in there! Once your things get there you’re going to be so happy (and busy!) that this annoying time will disappear!!
I’m thinking about you guys!! And so, so, so happy for you that you’re in such a beautiful part of the country!!!
XOXO
It’s Friday here, so that means your furniture is arriving TODAY!! It surely is hard in that in-between time, but you sound so excited and grateful! Hang in there, Melissa!
Oh I was hoping for Colorado. Well, you can always visit colorful Colorado. Utah is VERY beautiful too. We have relatives there!
Hope the movers arrive early Friday. Best of luck with packing and getting settled!
It is killer when you have to wait for the furniture. I’ve had that happen. All you want to do is get started with the business of unpacking and putting everything in place so that you can start living in your new house but, things never works out quite as easily as they should. My mother, a veteran diplomatic wife, would work like a madwoman once the container arrived and until all the boxes and packing was thrown away and the new home looked like the old home but in a new place. It’s bad now for you because the impatience eats at you. Just hang on. Soon enough you’ll be sitting on your sofas, sleeping in your bed and eating out of your often-used dishes and your new home will have the beat of your old one. Until then, glad to hear you are doing OK. It is nice to have a Whole Foods close by. I love that store. Not as much as Trader Joe’s, but close enough.
Hang in there. Doesn’t sound like any fun right now, but you will appreciate everything so much more when you get it. I hope it all goes smoothly. I would be nervous as well, but someday you’ll look back & think on the time you had to absorb your new surroundings without the rush & pressure to unpack. However, the cabin fever thing I understand. I have been stuck in my house for almost a month with a 19 month old, except for short trips to the store & one nice date with my husband. I am sooo ready for spring. Well, enjoy & keep us updated.
