This morning, we had a toddler fashion show. Pea was very into it. I needed to find a clever way to get her to try on the clothing currently in rotation in her closet and dresser. Ordinarily, it’s tough to get her into clothes. She wants nothing more than to run around in a pair of princess underpants (we are potty training!) and little else. But I knew that a purge of her closet and dresser was desperately needed. Lately, her 3T shirts have been hovering somewhere around her belly-button.
So after making our way through everything she owned, we were left with very little that actually fits. Or isn’t covered with stains or stretched out.
And then, we moved on to Coco’s room. Most of what is in her closet and armoire? Once belonged to her big sister. Cue the huge pangs of guilt. I made a promise to her when she was born that she was not going to spend her life in her sister’s castoffs. Not that there is anything wrong with hand-me-downs. Please, they play a vital role in our home. Two girls so close in age, and grandparents with a penchant for adorably chic baby clothing makes for quite the nice wardrobe. But seriously… some of the items I was holding onto, after closer inspection, were more about me not being able to let go then about Coco really needing them. Things were worn out or had little stains on them. It just didn’t seem right. Coco should have her own nice things. She deserves it. So we made another pile of things that needed to move on.
And then we restocked. Long-sleeve tees (it’s still snowing here!) and short-sleeve tees (summer is just around the corner, right?). Little dresses and we were set. C&C California is having a huge sale on their website. And the kids’ stuff? It’s now priced so that it’s comparable to what you’d find at Target or Old Navy or Baby Gap. There’s still a great selection of sizes and colors, too. These are amongst the same items of casual clothing that I stock in my own closet. They wash well, get softer with each wearing and are cut really nicely.

Mama Bird makes an excellent point on the benefits of being the second child… GREAT website! I ordered a few cute things for Clara to sport this summer. Tomorrow is my big day to clean out her closet and drawers and take stock!
i love c & c. Will check it out.
I always feel a bit guilty too that my younger one gets ALL hand me downs. But you know what she got to try cupcakes, Sesame street and other treats a whole lot sooner.
As always, you are so ingenious. What a great way to accomplish your goal. This place you mention has great girl clothes. Makes me wish I had a little princess to dress too.
Thanks for sharing this!
Fashion Show! What a great idea!!
I feel guilty about all the hand-me-downs my second wears too but less guilty I think because I have two boys…
