a picture is worth…

Coco took her first unassisted steps today. Of course, wouldn’t you know it, my husband flew out this morning and missed the big event. He knew he would, too. Mentioned it to me just last night. “She’s going to start walking this week while I’m away.”

They were not the most graceful steps. There were three big ones, and then moments later, I was able to catch her fourth official step on tape. My husband will be able to see it in a matter of minutes. It’s almost as good as being there in person, right?

We take a lot of pictures in this house. We document everything. But we don’t do much in the way of video. I don’t know why. We have a nice video camera that we received as a gift when Pea was born, but it just is never used. I hope I don’t come to regret that further down the road. But in the meantime, for the every day excitement around here, I have this awesome little camera by Sony called the Cyber-Shot that is so tiny I carry it with me everywhere. It’s digital, takes great photos but also takes video. And for such a tiny camera, it does some pretty amazing things. Reduces red-eye, has an incredible zoom lens on it and has a really generously sized screen for play-back. When my husband is away, I take little snippets with the video option and send them to him so that he feels like he’s here, like he’s a part of it all.

I’ve been through a lot of cameras over the years. But this little guy? He is my go-to camera. It does everything and then some. I’m not kidding when I say it’s always in my handbag, or my jacket pocket or hanging around my neck. I’ve been using it for most of Pea’s life and can’t imagine not having it. I suppose there are better ones out on the market that have come along in the years since my Cyber-Shot made it’s big entrance, but why mess with perfection?

    Congrats on the first steps!

Also, the picture of Pea on the slope? or in the snow? looking downward looks at first glance like she has angel wings on. So sweet!

Oh! How wonderful. You make me nostalgic for the wonder of this time. I’m glad you were able to capture part of it for your husband and hooray for your little camera. Unlike you, I fail dismally at this. Photograph rarely and hardly ever carry a camera with me. I’m sure I will regret it deeply someday.

Congrats to Coco! What a big girl!

I feel the same way about my Canon Sure Shot. I take lots of video on it (since it’s always with me), never for longer than a minute or so. I think that’s the perfect length to capture the moment and then I burn them on to DVDs. I figure, it’s better than nothing!

Congratulations Coco!!! First steps are such a big deal…

We don’t have a video camera and I’ve started wondering if I am going to regret that. We are thinking about getting one now, though.
