My comfort food of choice? A New York slice with a real orange soda on the side. From a bottle. A glass bottle. Sadly, it’s been years since I’ve been able to have this, my perfect meal. Geez, I miss New York City…
My comfort clothing of choice? A hoody. Fortunately for me, the ordinary sweatshirt has seen a dramatic upgrade in design.
I have a whole mess of them. Some are frayed, the color is so worn out I can’t remember if it was originally blue or green. Some of them have no strings left in the hood. Or the arms are too short from too many washes.
But when I need the comfort of my hoody but also will be seen out in public and therefore might like to avoid the whole “oh, poor thing, look at her” stares, I always, always go for my She-Bible Frankie hoody. I’ve written about this hoody before, too. And I honestly can’t even remember how I stumbled upon it. But I am so grateful that I did. Seriously, you’ve never seen what basically amounts to little more than a sweatshirt that is simply as chic and well-made as this one is. The colors are fantastic, basic neutrals, but not at all bland. And last year they updated them with organic cotton. I don’t really know what exactly that entails, but it sounds good, doesn’t it? But it’s actually the hood on this thing that does it for me. It’s huge. It hangs perfectly down your back, but it also looks fantastic when you are actually wearing it. And tell me, how often have you actually pulled the hood of your hoody up over your head? Not many, right?
They are on sale at She-Bible. And while you might still consider them a bit pricy for a sweatshirt, believe me when I tell you that you will live in this one.
I’m wearing mine today…

Okay, I’m convinced you need to turn this retail talent into a shopping consultants service, you could do it from home and you just provide the best advice to keep the rest of us from looking frumpy! Or maybe you could write a column for one of those magazines….like Lucky or InStyle or something like that!
It looks so comfy and wonderful! I wish I had $70 to spend on this hoodie. Some day I will again…
I remember when I was a few years into my career and started having enough discretionary income to start shopping at Robinsons-May instead of second hand stores and JC Penny. And later, when I was really rich, I shopped at Macy’s (the sales racks) and places like Ann Taylor Loft in the mall. But I always felt that even though I had enough money to spend on clothes, I couldn’t really find much I wanted to spend my money on. It was like some kind of paradox that I had wanted to have enough money to buy stuff, but once I had it, the expensive stuff didn’t seem all that worthwhile.
But now I realize the problem – I was shopping in the mall! It turns out the awsomely expensive clothes – the ones worth buying – are at obscure little boutiques I needed Melissa the Mouth to tell me about. Where were you when I had a job that paid me money??
Chic and comfy. The perfect combination!
Love it!
You have great taste, Melissa- that is a really cute hoodie! I love the pockets, too.
Melissa! You read my mind! I saw one of your pictures in one of these hoodies and I’ve been meaning to ask you where you got it! Thanks for the post! Also, twinA received her Puella Petit grab bag yesterday! Adorable…too cute…and even though it was a grab brag, all the prints just looked like her. Thank you for all your completely stylish advice!

I love hoodies! Those look (and sound) SOOOOO wonderful!
Dancer,
A girl after my own heart! I also spend a lot of time scrounging around for promo codes before making a purchase. Thanks for the info on this one – well worth it. Especially since I have about a million photos of me in this hoody. Maybe that means I wear it entirely too much? Nah…
I have totally been living in the deep-v, roll over collar sweatshirts this winter, and have been admiring yours since seeing your pic last fall. I think it’s time… I also like the pockets!
I came across this as I was scrounging for coupon codes.
