This is Lola.

I found her last week, in my endless search for a Chocolate Labrador Retriever. Because after much debate, that’s the dog we decided on. A chocolate Lab. I didn’t think I could have another Lab. Ever. Chamo just kind of broke my heart, when he left us. I was sure I would never recover. But then it became clear to me, to us, that we were meant to open our hearts to another Lab. So, she came to us this afternoon, via not one but two airplane rides. All the way from the rural mountains in Colorado, where she was whelped on a huge farm that had lots of animals and kids for her to play with. And when we met her at the airport, oh my gosh. She was so… ours. She is sweet. Her head smells yummy. She has puppy breath. The most incredible puppy breath. She’s playful and silly and well-adjusted. And that’s a tall order for a barely 9-week old puppy. A 9-week old puppy with the biggest paws I’ve ever seen. She’s going to be a big one, that much I know.
It’s a miracle we found her. We had a heck of a time locating a chocolate litter anywhere in the country that had a puppy that wasn’t already spoken for. But in my searches? Hours and hours, late into the night, hunched over my computer? I came across a small handful of breeders who had silver Labrador Retrievers. And believe me when I tell you that as a dog person? Someone who thought she knew every single type of dog out there? I did not know the first thing about a silver. Had never even heard of it! Technically, she is a chocolate. And she has her AKC papers to prove it. But… someone in her lineage carried a recessive gene that made her turn out this lovely shade of silvery gray. Kind of like a Weimaraner. And she has the most insanely pale blue eyes that will turn into the most haunting shade of amber. And the combination? It will take your breath away. It did mine. And then? It stole my husband’s.
And then?

She stole Pea’s heart…

I had never heard of a silver Lab either but she is breathtakingly beautiful… as is Miss Pea.

I found the pick plaid collar at Petco, of all places! They had a really great selection of the cutest collars I’ve seen in a long time, really reasonable prices…

We found Lola at Rocky Mountain Labradors in rural Colorado. Derick is the breeder and he’s a really nice guy and he takes phenomenal care of his puppies. As of today, there is still one remaining boy left in the litter (Lola is Puppy #2), but he told me via email that he has a NEW litter (just 3 days old!) that will be available in July.

And yes, Pea is having the time of her life with her new best friend!
Melissa,
Lola is sooo sweet. Would you please tell me where you got the pink plaid dog collar?
Thanks so much!!
Donna
I’m in love!! I always wanted a silver chocolate lab but they’re so hard to find. Where did you get her?
Pea must be having the time of her life!
Beautiful, beautiful dog.
She’s gorgeous!! My next dog will definitely be of the “large” variety. Sadly, my little Jack Russell would never let our little one kiss him on the head like that. Not in a million years.
I am overdosing on the cuteness of this post! My heart just MELTED with the pictures of Pea and Lola (great name, by the way). Congratulations on your new family member!
How’s your other dog doing with her?
Oh I just love, love, love her! I’ve never heard of a silver lab either but she is about the cutest dog I’ve ever seen (Shhh. Don’t tell my dogs) and in my 32 years, there have only been 3 that I haven’t had a dog. She is breathtaking. Congratulations!
Look at that darling, sweet pup-pup! Pea looks ecstatic! I love those rolls of puppy fat under the chin… too much!! Enjoy your new family member.
Melissa!
How Adorable! What a sweet sweet face-it is bringing tears to my eyes! I am so glad you found Lola. I always wanted two cuties to name Lola and Geddy. I love it!
Pea looks like she has forever-bonded with Lola already! And is her cute little outfit from Puella Petit? Just wondering aloud!
Good luck, and congratulations,
Madison
Oh, what a gorgeous puppy! Makes me want one!
Oh, I love her! So glad you found your match. When my husband and I got a dog, we got the same kind that I grew up with and I’ve noticed that dogs of the same breed often do a lot of the same things, strangely enough. I guess what I am trying to say is that you may be surprised by how well Lola ends up filling Chamo’s shoes.
She is so cute. I hope you are ready for the craziness of a puppy!
So cute! Great name, Lola. Love it. I hope shes a good one. You guys are going to have so much fun! Oh and my offer on the free Weimaraner still stands (since you like the color and all).
What a cutie! I’ve always been partial to White Retrievers and regular old German Shepherds, but I must say, that puppy of yours is beautiful!
I am in love with your puppy!!! It did induce many oohs and ahhs, and many “look at da puppy!” squeals to the bf who just walked into the office to hang out for a bit. SOOOOOO cute!!!!!!
OH MY. Nothing is better than a lab puppy.
So cute. So very, very cute.
i dont even know what to say about this!! except SIMPLY GORGEOUS! and what a pheonmenal household she’s come to…you are all very lucky.
XOXOXOXO
I dream daily of getting a chocolate lab… I just think they are the most gorgeous, soulful & caring dogs ever! But dh disagrees – he thinks sheltie – so I guess no dog for now! Congrats to you guys – your girls are so lucky to have dogs…
