I’ve been warned so many times over recent years about needing to wear sunblock. And I’ve been faithful to this advice, for the most part. My moisturizer always has at least an SPF 15 in it. And when I’m in the sun for longer amounts of time, I wear real and dedicated sunblock. My girls? Never outside without their Coppertone. And for those times when we find ourselves, unexpectedly, at the park? I carry this little sunscreen stick around in my bag. Just in case. And now, here in the mountains, I’ve found it to be even more pertinent that we slather it on. And then reapply. And then reapply some more.
I have fair skin. But I have fair skin that doesn’t burn. I get dark. Very dark. But it’s not a look I’m striving for any more. A little healthy color is all I want or need.
My husband? He’s outside a lot. And I’ve talked to him about needing to wear sunscreen, too. It’s just something we have to do. Like brushing our teeth or putting on deodorant. And when we’re together, I can remind him and stick the bottle in his hand and watch him put it on. But he travels a lot. And I can’t keep my eye on him. So I had to find him something that was a “manly” grooming product but that would satisfy my desire for him to protect his skin. At the very least, the skin on his face. Because while I know he can take the two seconds to put on a “manly” moisturizer with an SPF in it, I’m pretty sure when I send him on the road with a secondary bottle of sunblock, he’s not using it. Not that he’s in a rush, but he’s a get-in-and-get-out kind of a guy.
Hopefully, he thinks this Jack Black product fits the bill. And he will use it. Every morning.

I CONSTANTLY nag at my husband to wear sunblock. Maybe this will do the trick – and just in time for Father’s Day! Thanks!
My husband never wore sunscreen much and he just had skin cancer removed from his face and hand (he’s fine). So it’s worth bugging him….
First off, love your blog! I haven’t been blogging long -but I put a link to yours on my page
I never thought of making my boyfriend (who is a welder & always outside -big time prone to sunburns) get into wearing sunscreen. I always think of me and the baby, naturally. Thanks for the making a ‘light’ come on in my brain! I might just get him some of that sunscreen too, maybe he will think it’s cooler than waterbabies, or coppertone & want to use it!
What is it with men and not wearing sunscreen? I mean really, it seems to be hardwired into their dna or something. I hope that he uses what you got him, it sure looks manly enough to me. I never go out without my spf moisturizer and foundation (love that my foundation has spf)
hey, i’ve been reading your blog for a while now and really enjoy your writing and stories. since you obviously care about your family’s health, i thought you might be interested in this website all about the toxicity of sunblocks. i found out the one i was using is definitely NOT the best one.
