Have you ever tried a “stain” before on your face? Benetint from Benefit comes to mind. And while I adore the company, I do not adore their stain. Sorry. But between the time I put a dab on my cheeks and the time that I put the brush down to blend it, I have a bright red dot on my cheek. And if I manage to get to it while it’s still wet? I end up with bright red fingers for the remainder of the day. It’s not a good look. And I’ve read before that Sarah Jessica Parker loves the tint. And she always looks so fresh, natural and dewy. Remember the good old days of “Sex and the City?” I used to bemoan to my husband, “how does she get her cheeks to look like that?” So naturally, I keep trying it. But I have not figured out how to make it work for me. So, if you know the secret? To the successful application of this product? Please, by all means, indulge me! Because otherwise, I’m moving on…

…to this Tint Hint by Laura Geller. The cost is a little less than Benetint, and I think it’s what would be considered a gel formula. It has a click-up sponge applicator so you can take it with you. You won’t run the risk of having it leak out, all over your bag. But you won’t need to take it with you. This stuff lasts all day long. At the end of a seemingly endless day? I have naturally-flushed looking cheeks. Score.

And the most brilliant thing about this product? It comes with not one but two little finger sponges that you can do your blending with, although honestly, you won’t need them. Because if you use your fingers? It will wash off.

I cannot tell you how excited I am to have discovered a stain that doesn’t actually stain anything other than your cheeks!

When I used Benetint, I found to get the hint of pink cheeks, I put three tiny dots in a large-ish triangle on my cheeks and rubbed quickly but softly. I also used it on my lips, applying the same three-tiny-dot technique, or else I’d end up with a bright red section on part of my lip. I also found that part of my lips held the stain better than others – like part of the lip was like a sponge and sucked up the tint. Weird. But something I learned to live with for the sake of long-lasting lip color.

Interesting…I’m still back in the dinosaur days using plain ol’ blush. I may have to look into this.

I use Lorac Sheer Wash and I can highly recommend that as well. The travel size will last FOREVER. It comes in a little roll-on tube and washes right off my fingers but stays on my foundation-free cheeks all day.

I also gave up on Benetint. I’m sure it’s great if you have a personal makeup artist to expertly apply it but it never worked that well for me.
