I’ve written several posts now about the enormous consumption of sunblock in our home. We go through the stuff at a rapid pace. Especially the girls, being that they are so fair-skinned. They definitely got that from their daddy. Even before we head out into the yard with the dogs, for just a few minutes, we slather more on. And so I’ve always just headed over to the drugstore and picked up the biggest bottle of the highest SPF that I could find.
But I recently decided to give California Baby Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 a try. It’s fragrance-free, which is essential for us, so that was the clencher. I had a really hard time finding a tube of it anywhere, let alone two tubes. I did finally find it, though, and my goodness, did we use those up quickly. The tubes were tiny. I suppose more so because I’m used to that good old huge pink bottle from the drugstore. The sunblock worked well, no sunburns. However, it was extremely thick and left a very shiny and whitish gleam on the girls. Not a good look. So when my stock ran out, I decided to try something else. Because while I don’t mind spending a little extra for something I absolutely love, and in general I adore California Baby products, the sunscreen just wasn’t for us.
And so, the search continued…
And then, I found it…
The greatest sunscreen ever…
Kiss My Face Sunspray Lotion. It’s SPF 30. Water-resistant. Fragrance-free. Oh, and it’s a pretty large 8-oz. bottle. And the price? It’s definitely right. And I love it. I’ve been using it on everyone. It sprays on, but you still have to rub it in. No problem there, because it has a really light and lovely consistency and it’s so very easy to spread and it does not leave a whitish cast on the skin. Pea doesn’t complain when I pull out the yellow bottle the way she has with other sun protection lotions in the past. It’s just not a 15-minute ordeal to get her covered. It’s spray, rub and out the door. I keep one by the back door, one in her bag that goes with her to camp and one in the girl’s bathroom so that we’re always covered. Get it? Always covered?
Oh, and if you decide to give it a try? And you can’t find any? Anywhere? Well, let’s just say that you’ll know who’s been there before you…
Me.

Hi Melissa:
I love your site so much. I have two girls and we also wear sunblock just about everywhere we go in the summer. I am always looking for a healthy alternative to the Coppertones and Banana Boats that we currently use, which contain harsh chemicals.
I am going to try Kiss My Face as you suggest and just wanted to send you this link where it seems to be on sale.

Hi, I lead the marketing here at Kiss My Face and saw your entry about our sun spray. We are very proud of our products and our goal of finding the right balance of natural and organic with products that really work. And it is so great to hear positive comments from folks like you because in the end you have to like it for us to stay in business. Although not our biggest line, our suncare line continues to grow as people discover it. We sincerely appreciate your comments and that you have shared them with friends and family. Please feel free to send me comments about what we can do better at lewis@kissmyface.com and check out all the other products we make at http://www.kissmyface.com. Have a great holiday, Lewis Goldstein
Erin,
Kiss My Face is a natural and organic skincare line. They’ve been around forever. You can read up on their products and goals at their site. I love the line, always have. But keep in mind that there are varying degrees of what people consider natural and organic to be, so it all depends on what you personally are looking for in your products. But I really think the sunspray is fantastic, and I’m now a converted devotee…

Thanks for the recommendation! Aaron has eczema and I use a fragrance free moisturizer on his skin. Most of the time, I keep him in the shade to avoid using sunscreen unless necessary. Fragrance free sunscreen – I didn’t know there was such a thing! They all seem to have that day-at-the-beach smell.
This summer I am in love with the spray-on sunblocks, like Neutrogena’s Fresh Cooling body mist in spfs from 30 to 70. Or Banana Boat’s Ultra Defense….they are so easy to use and no mess! Confession….sometimes I use their dry oil spray in spf 15 (or even 8 on my body)
…but I’m always careful with my face and wear a baseball cap or sunhat along with a higher spf. go figure.
I need to be better about wearing sunscreen on the rest of my body. My face always has protection because my moisturizer and foundation both have spf, but the rest of me tends to get neglected. Next time I’m out of sunscreen I’ll have to try this one, thanks for the recommend!
Is Kiss My Face a safe product like the Sunshine Baby? I agree with the white-ish residue that stays on their skin-don’t really care for it. And it is a bit spendy. I will have to check out the Kiss My Face, thanks for letting us know!
Wow, I just checked out Lisa’s website. Such great stuff. I love simple jewerly and I think she mastered it.
Kiss My Face is the BEST. It’s healthy and it works great. They also make a high-altitude version that we use when we are up in the mountains.
