I like gin & tonic. With really good gin. Tanqueray is what we stock up on. Or perhaps even a vodka tonic. With really good vodka. Grey Goose is our favorite. And not those citrus-flavored aberrations. Just straight up Original. Yes, I’m a cocktail kind of girl. No wine for me. (But if you are planning on serving Grgich Hill, I am in. It’s the only wine I will drink. Well, it’s the only wine that I will drink and relish.) But if it’s a steamy hot summer day, it has to be an icy cold beer. Preferably a Foster’s. No light beer for me.
Our friends? They drink wine. Nearly all of them. And lots of it. I don’t know the first thing about wine, beyond white with fish and red with meat. My husband knows wine a bit; before we have company over, he does his ‘homework’ and decides on the perfect wine. I admire that. He is a wonderful host.
But he was becoming embarrassed by the state of our wine glasses. For a couple who have a fully stocked bar, good glassware and the like, the fact that we had only four tired wineglasses, of which I am not even certain were a matching four, was a thorn in his side.
Recently, he discovered World Market. I think it is for him what Target is for me. The mother ship.
So I was not surprised when he came home with a 12-piece set of red wine glasses and another 12-piece set of white wine glasses. I am completely in love with these glasses. So very European. And the best part? No stems for me to break as I toss them in the dishwasher! (Have I mentioned how many times my husband has insisted that I no longer load the dishwasher? Boo hoo, right? But I break about one dish and one glass, on average, per week. In fact, I just broke a bowl this very evening. While loading the dishwasher. In front of my husband. Who had told me not 10 seconds before ‘the incident’ to “step away from the sink.”)
The man has excellent taste. And he came to me that way.
But in addition, he brought home a bag of those little colored umbrellas traditionally found in froufrou drinks. Although he intends to use them to ‘princess’ up our daughters’ Sunday morning pancakes. And his final purchase were adorable little juice glasses (acrylic) for the girls.
Good taste and the proud and doting father of two little Daddy’s girls. I’m pretty sure I’m the luckiest woman around…

Unfortunately, NY doesn’t have a World Market. We need more affordable places like that over here. At least they have online shopping.
I love World Market! And I recently started toting my husband along and he loves it now too.
I really like stemless wine glasses and want to get some someday. They seem so updated and practical, yet still classy.
