I never have any clue as to what to get my mother-in-law as a gift. Just no clue. What do you get for the woman who literally has everything, and if she doesn’t have it, she goes out and buys it? (She has a black belt in shopping. No kidding. And her husband? He’s very, very generous.)
Over the years, we’ve had some winners and some losers in the gifting arena. Lately, it’s been mostly losers. How could we possibly win when someone just gave her something from Chanel that she’s been coveting all season? The answer is, we can’t.
But the one thing that I do know about her is that she worships her grandchildren. And being that Pea and Coco are the only ones who live outside of a 20-minute radius from her house in Dallas, I knew that anything related to our girls, now that we live so far away, is going to be a real winner. She’s always lamenting about how much she misses them, how she’s missing watching them growing up, how visiting Utah two times a year for a few days is just not enough time to take them all in.
I found Cut Arts, completely by accident, at least a few years ago. I absentmindedly bookmarked the sight. And then quickly forgot about it. But as I was cleaning up bookmarks on my computer, I stumbled across Cut Arts once again, and something made me check the site out. And I am so glad that I did. I’d forgotten how beautiful Karl’s work is. And then, it hit me: this is the perfect gift for my mother-in-law, for Christmas. She will adore two hand-cut portrait silhouettes of her granddaughters. I know she will. These silhouettes are completely old-fashioned. And yet, they are completely modern. You know? As in “everything old is new again?”
I think that we’ve finally hit one out of the ballpark…
