I can't believe that studio, that's utterly ridiculous! I hope that you get a new studio sometime so Pea can have a GOOD ballet experience. I hope gymnastics goes much more smoothly.

We went through something similar when my daughter was 3. The teacher was impatient with the little ones, expecting them to have the attention span of ballerinas-in-training, and after a month or so, DD hated going to class -- after a full year of literally begging to take ballet.

I let her quit after another month of dragging her there. We had paid for two months of the three-month class, so we had at least gotten the lessons we paid for (though there is a pink tutu in the closet that we bought for the recital that she didn't dance in). I, too, grew up with the "finish what you start" mantra, but I just didn't see the point of making her (and me) miserable.

She's 5 now and still loves ballet, so we're going to try a new school at the end of June. The summer session is just six classes, so if she doesn't like it, it's no big loss. If she does, we'll sign up in the fall.

sounds like you should open a studio!!

my daughter had her first recital last weekend and it went great. (i'll send you pics) we're fortunate that she goes to a great school that's very organized. they don't take professional pictures but maybe it's better that way so the kids don't get overwhelmed. anyway, there was a little girl in her group that always cried just before class because she didn't want to dance. but her mom brought her in every week, even if just to watch. however, on the day of her rehearsal, her mother had a complete breakdown b/c her daughter cried and cried and refused to go on stage. guess what though? once she stepped on stage, she stopped crying, smiled at the audience and did her routine. go figure! for someone who didn't actually perform at her classes, she did surprisingly well. and then she cried b/c she didn't want to get off stage. it was hilarious. i guess it was all worth it at the end! as for pea, i totally understand why she doesn't want to go back. and it's unfortunate that the teacher didn't make pea's dance experience worthwhile. so go enjoy the birthday party and i hope gymnastics doesn't disappoint.
