I’ve bitten my nails most of my life. Disgusting habit, but I am a tightly wound ball of stress with not that many outlets. Periodically, I stopped cold turkey. Such as three months before my wedding. Most women start going to the gym when staring down their impending nuptials, right? I stopped biting my nails. And then promptly started up only days after getting hitched. Then stopped and started. Stopped. Started. Seeing a pattern here?
But I’ve stopped once again. This time, I’m hoping for good. Why? How? ‘Madness’ by Chanel. I saw it on the counter at a department store and that was that. I knew that some how, some way, I would wear this incredible color on my digits. But now, I’m coming to the end of my bottle. I have no idea how this happened, I haven’t had it that long. And I can’t find a replacement bottle anywhere! What’s up with that, Chanel?
A suitable replacement: Chinatown by Nars. (I love Nars. Genius. Everything he touches.)
Done.

I hear you! I have all sorts of poses with my girls where my hands are in very strange twists so you can’t see my dirty little secret. Shameful! And my oldest (almost 5) has occasionally bitten her nails as well and it’s so hard for me to tell her not to when she sees me doing it, which is why I am on such a push to stop for good. But coming up on 38 years of a habit – hard! I’m telling you, keeping them painted and constantly putting on hand lotion has been the best deterrent for me. Give it a try! Treat yourself to a really nice bottle of polish, some tools from the drugstore and try and make some time to turn it into a habit. I really think it’s the only way to go! Good luck…
UGH! I totally know what you are talking about. I too am a habitual nail biter! It’s all sorts of wrong! I’ve tried to stop for pretty much my entire life but I just can’t. Occasionally I’ll go a couple of weeks here or there. Like right before my kids were born because I had a photographer come and take newborn photos and knew there would be lots of pictures of my nasty nails and my beautiful babies!
The worst part is that my just less than two year old has started biting her nails and I can’t seem to stop her either!
